I'm making the most definitive list of favorite movies ever.

For every year, I'm listing every movie I've seen and compare them all to each other asking one question; Which movie do I like more. Movies that score in the 80th percentile or higher, advance to the next round: Favorite of the Decade. After each Decade is done, an All Time list will be formed.

B B B BUCK!

A while back my friend Matt told me the Buck Rogers theme had lyrics... I had no idea that the opening credits were so.... BRILLIANT.

Okay I'm a Halo fan now....

I just saw well, this,

And now I'm a fucking Halo fan.
I don't own a 360, and won't until the Morlocks have sounded an all clear on that ring of death thing. I don't own Halo 1 or 2, borrowed them from fans and couldn't get into them. I was however burnt out on FP Shooters when Doom 2 came out. But I love movies, My favorite genre is space... I'm the guy hanging out at Cowboy Feng's thinking;
Riddick bombed, Starship Troopers was a one night stand, and now Halo is the new chick at the end of the bar, I'm sitting down my beer, and telling you my wingman, that I'm in love. I want to walk up to the Halo movie and buy it a drink right now, and hope to have a threesome (trilogy) with it!

Movie: Transformers

Oh..... wow, I soooooo didn't hate this movie, I think it's love, but who want's to rush into a huge commitment like that. This is a movie that is a 5out of 5 and guilty of not being an 8 out of 5. It's the Mona Lisa holding a Cocktail glass or having a yellow umbrella in the background. It's not Episode I.

I won't bitch about flames on Optimus... I loved the way he looked. Fanboys who bitched about the flames or other small things 'destroying Prime or their Childhood, don't forget that Hasbro at one point tuned him into Optimus Primal and he was originally a bat, a cheap stupid bat. So, a paint job will not kill yer childhood.

Why wasn't this movie more mythic, more character driven, why couldn't the action had less blurry moving camera blur? Are all women in their universe former Victoria secret models?

Oh, if I have spoilers... if you haven't seen the movie already, you don't care enough about Transformers to feel it spoils anything.

Let's see..... quickie thoughts....

Megatron tosses a car. That's just one instance of human life being piss in this movie, the Decepticons tear through people like a natural disaster, and human life has never felt cheaper. Buckets of dead... and if you tear through a bus, Prime will CUT YOUR HEAD OFF!

Captain or Sargent Lennox... The guy with the baby, should have been named Fairborne, and his daughter should have been named Marissa. Though I'm now cool with the Sam Mikela thing for the most part, they wasted about a billion chances in this movie to make G.I. Joe a Transformers spinoff.

They seeded so many great things in this for the BEST Sequels EVER....

Galvatron, We'll all be happy if he doesn't go by Megatron anymore. and killing Starscream would be nice, but Starscream has to become leader the moment before his murder. SO MAKE HIM GALVATRON!!!!

Jetfire, who says Megatron came to earth alone?

Quintessons: Damn, they'd be like the aliens in the 2001 series, throwing cosmic geometry everywhere, but instead of spreading sapience they're spreading chaos, which is a perfect way of creating demand for their products!

Dinobots: Chuck that fragment of the Allspark, which can probably become another Allspark, onto some Animatronic dinosaurs, then have Grimlock fighting Prime until Grimlock realizes he's not evil.

Bruticus: Starscream should raise his own army, and announce himself their supreme commander, then, well, I refer back to the Galvatron thing.

This was in no way disappointing, but I wish they'd realize what they have here. Transformers could have been a holy trilogy. They're off on the wrong foot for it to be up with Rings and Star Wars, but they're close, and some out of the park sequels could put transformers in the pantheon, rather than in the loser set of Spider-Man (Third one blew it...) Matrix (take after Jaws, never acknowledge your sequels), and Pirates (You're not as bad off as some other trilogies, time will tell if you join the Pantheon, you're in trilogy purgatory with "The Prequel Trilogy" and The Godfather...)

So Bay, and Spielberg, do you want to make a series of films that have good opening days, or do you want a series so LOVED that we'll need to buy a boxed set for every new format down the road... So even 100 years from now, "Oooo, Transformers Trilogy Memory Crystals, 11,000 Dollars at Best Circuit Buy City - Mart, those are a MUST!!!"

Movie : Spider-Man 3

Hey, the lenticular print of this poster is great. nice depth, good clarity, the size makes it a striking wall piece... I'd buy it... maybe... I really like the poster, and Spiderman, and I'm in the hater camp of this movie.
That's such a stupid and strong word to throw onto a fucking movie. How could I "hate" this movie, if a movie is actually hateable, you're probably of the good fool sense to avoid seeing it in the first place.
Was this a waste of a third part to a perftly entertaining series? Well, I'm a "Hater" of this movie, my feelings are basiclly off the shelf agreement with almost anyone else who loves comic book movies and

Update: 11-26-07 I hated this trash so much I never posted my thoughts.

Back to Blogging....

Eh, I'm not sure why, it's not like anyone but people who know or knew you read anyones blogs anyway, and complete strangers, and that's a little freaky... So I'll treat it for what it is, a pad of paper, in a trashcan, next to everyones desk. BTW, why are you looking in this trashcan? Next can over has the pack of smokes that had one left, and that phone number you lost is in the trash that was taken out already.

Why blog again, in a world where no one is allowed to truly say anything? I don't know... but it doesn't stop me from feeling like I'm ready to pop. But in the world of trivial culture, it is the Summer movie season. With most summer fare beggin to be family events, I've been DREADING it in a way... I HATE, HATE spending money on going to the movies. I love going, I used to go every week at least!!!, but multiply that cost by four, and it hurts a little...

So, what's been the year so far in movies: Siderman Forever and Caribbean Trek 3: The Search for Jack deserve their own posts.

To catch up, some quick thoughts on some oldies:

Ghost Rider
I love comics, duh, I'm not enamored with hero books so much anymore, continuity... feeling lost, changes from back in the day, but I'm getting over some of those and if I hear good about one I'll give it a chance. Most superhero comics never get a diffinative story, they're stuck in the concept stage for hundreds of issues. Ghost Rider is one of those comics, I never felt what his story was, he was a dude on a bike with his head on fire... In the early nineties I loved the book for Mark Texeira's art and a truly bad ass bike.
Going into the movie, I have about the same relationship to the material as I did Blade, and I walked out very happy. I get the impression the movie wasn't we received, and I can't figure out why... What could you possibly think you were going to get from a movie about Nicholas Cage with his skull on fire. Think about this; Ghost Rider made over 4 times what Gridhouse made, and was exactly what Grindhouse wanted to be, a B-Movie from the 1970's. Ghost Rider has always been that, and when that's what you want and expect from a movie, it's really enjoyable.

and....

300
A summer blockbuster walks up to King Leonidas, it's a bigger movie, it'll make more money, It's always had more hype, but in terms of quality... A boot lands on this blockbuster's chest pushing it into a pit as the last words it'll hear are "This... is... SPARTA!!!"

I love seeing a Graphic novel come to life in this way, what fucking genius thought not to reinvent the damn wheel when putting this shit on the screen??? Why did this approach take so long!!! Far from every comics property deserve this, and 300 wasn't at the top of my list, but Watchmen, is purdy close to the Top. I hope, so so so hop DC is willing to let Warner Brother maybe somehow negotiate the rights to another Frank Miller work and give it this treatment. I know if I were an exec at Warner Bros, I'd find out who owns DC comics, and buy the rights to Batman the Dark Knight returns, and get Zack Snyder making it right after Watchmen.

Lining Hibernation...

I probably should have said this months ago, but I don't think anyone reads my blog so why would I?

I won't be blogging for awhile, mosly since I feel I have nothing to say. Seeing V for Vendetta certified that. I loved the movie, it had Natalie in it, and the Agent Smith guy and JOHN HURT! But since the movie had political themes that to say anything about, one way or another would put you in one corner or another... It's frustrating. No one in America can say anything without pissing someone off. Maybe not immediately, but years down the road. You could be blogging an opinion now, and be fired from a job you don't even have yet, years from now for what you'll blog tommorow. Besides, Clint Eastwood said "Opinions are like Assholes, everybody has one."

Well if Blogging = Opinionating then Blogger = Asshole? Or are Blogs like assholes to, because everyone has one... Then we'd be Assholes shitting assholes that are full of shit. Which I think I knew when I started the damn thing, that it was no better than birdcage lining.

I'll come back to blogging when I have something to say, and when I can ignore that nobody cares anyway.

Also, spam blogs, span replies and Blogger's security stuf took the fun out of it.

Comics Wednesday: Do you know where the closest shop is?

Gee, I haven't blogged in awhile... why? Well, I get so few comics, some weeks it wasn't worth saying that the Walking Dead continued along as it does, or that the Star Wars title of the week was good or bad... This week is pretty standard and almost every title I get right now except the Walking Dead. Besides, much of my free time has been eaten alive by Magic the Gathering and Katamari...

THE TRANSFORMERS : INFILTRATION #2
I've been in love with Transformers since the first blister pack of cassettes I opened in, what 1984? Two - thirds of my life I've loved these warring machines, and shit... TWO-THIRDS, shit, I'm even wearing a Decepticon T-Shirt right this second as I'm typing this and all I can say is that this book sucks shit, and is a waste of $2.99. Nearly complete crap. I'd comment on the story but for two issue in a row, the time it takes to read one... I've had longer orgasms. I'm male. That's like saying I've had longer sneezes. Anyone who knows me, will attest that that's probably the case as well. This book is actually trying to make transformers fans see them as an '80's pop gimmick and little more than it's cousins Street Hawk and Knight Rider. This has the quality of a bad episode of Airwolf. Transformers deserves more than simple nostalgic drivel. When Star Trek was the same age Transformers was last year. By that point it was well on it's way from being a 60's fad to a respected pillar of popular culture. Transformers is the Star Trek of the 80's. To bad it's biggest detractors seem to be running the show. Kinda makes it seem like the soulless creation of nobody but an impersonal corporation...

STAR WARS REPUBLIC #83
Republic 79 and 80 were note perfect!... Have I ever said all the things I LIKE about Quinlan Vos? All of them... I like him on Stargate Atlantis. And I, like everybody, loved his padawan. I also liked how Dark Horse killed him off in the movie adaption. Let me repeat that... Dark Horse killed him off in the movie adaption. Which doesn't matter... here's what "really happened"... whatever.

STAR WARS EMPIRE #39
... See this is why I haven't been doing many of these posts.
I DIDN'T have anything to say about issue 38... since I had little to say about issue 37... and I CAN'T.... CAN'T even have an opinion until issue 40!. It would be stupid of me to try. It would show my stupidity. Is it good.... just as good as the 3 issues before it! Why can't I have an opinion? Cause it could have a stupid ending. I doubt it will, but I won't know for a month. Just like I'm not going to form an opinion yet of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic yet... I want to see where it goes... I'm not fully excited yet. The first issue was pedestrian... A friend of mine told me there was a surprise ending... of course, so does the cover. The cover of the issue is the ending. It's kinda like following a map to a destination and being surprised you got there. The problem I have with the KOTOR story arc, is it's set before the game. While I want to see this, I feel like I know how it turns out... I'll remain optimistic.

Oh... and Galactica probably should loose that "Best show on television" mantle... Surface kicked it's ass for over a month of new episodes straight. Catch Surface in reruns or however.. but just watch them in order...

Hey in an infinite number of better universes, Mary Hart is saying "And James Dean turned 75!" today on Entertainment Tonight.

Movie: King Kong & Zathura (and Sky High)

(Note: Yet AGAIN, no comics of note have bothered to hit the shelves... well none on my pull list... depressing.) Oh, I guess it's time to blog about the big movie of years end... yay... I'm tired actually. I didn't get much sleep, I was at the midnight showing, it wasn't that crowded, but nicely near-full... why, well, when we got out the road conditions were horrible with snow and rain. No biggie.

--- That was all I wrote the morning AFTER seeing King Kong. ---

I dragged my heels on what to write about this movie since unlike a professional critic, I'll admit when I'm not sure. To friends, I've mentioned my likes (mostly the human cast, including Kong) and trivial bitches about the selection of the Dino cast. To cut to the chase there, Skull Island needed some stegosaurus action, and though the bat things do supply a rationale for how Kong deals with biplanes, I still would have preferred a pterodactyl. Ya, ya, Spielberg kinda took some of the air meant for those sails with the Jurassic movies. Big deal. Star Wars has space ships, should those be skipped in a Flash Gordon movie? We can take multiple scoops of the same, here's proof; network TV still exists and Rocky 6 is on the way.
I loved King Kong when I was a kid, the original most, but even the 76 version, and the Japanese versions. I wear my love for Star Wars on my sleeve, I'd be an evangelical Jedi if I didn't think they were kind of weird with the "No Love" rule and the baby abductions. But, my 12 inch Chewbacca figure got his bandoleer taken off and was King Kong to me, and the Chewbacca figure and all the other little figs... the scale worked out well. My father was 1 when the original came out, I was 1 in 76, my son is 3... There's a generational connection to Kong to me....

Interesting Side story: Turner Classic Movies was showing King Kong (`76) the night we went to the midnight showing. Aeighty Aight, my family and I were watching it, killing time until AA and I went to the movie. My daughter and I were going to U2 the next night, so my wife decides that she'll take our son to Kong that night. He couldn't go to the midnight showing with his sister since Wehrenberg Theaters hates small children after the sun goes down. 'Sokay Wehrenberg, the Galaxy is ugly (when was it designed 1984?) and your Imax is almost a waste, and I give you plenty of money regularly. Anyway, my son was begging, the next day, to NOT see King Kong. He loves Kong, but he thought that mommy was taking him to see the Jeff Bridges version... poor Flynn... After multiple reassurances, he agreed to trust mommy that she wasn't going to take him to the "Bad Kong". He loved the movie.

I did too... I guess. It's a good movie... I'm just blah on it.. right now. But, I'm kinda blah about a lot of things... Though, I'm almost hoping I see Munich on the 25th rather than Kong again. I know I'm growing to hate going to the movies... People suck, and so so does driving, waiting bites and wanting a DAMN SODA breaks me. For just under $7 you can get a box of 28 bags of Act II popcorn at Sam's. That's a bag for every day in February!

Other thought; Peter Jackson makes the best fantasies about places I'd never want to be... but they're bad places. His Skull Island is the worst place on Earth, one of the worst habitable environments ever in a movie. Not would I ever want to live in Middle Earth... Unless I were an elf. That might not be too bad...

Damn, I dwaddled so long to Blog about Kong. I had mixed feelings about the movie. It's great, but, Kong's a downer story... and the music was forgettable. Maybe I'm just down on another year gone by... And that I saw....

This movie sucks like Monica in the oval... and stinks like an old wet cigar wrapped in a fishy odor to boot! It was a TEDIOUS BORE. Why? Well, as a sequel to Jumanji, we know they're in NO DANGER... As a family movie, If those were my kids I'd be suicidal at what total whiny dicks both wastes of space were. The kids should have tossed the script back and played themselves, there's hints of them being more interesting people than the cardboard they were forced to play. I won't bitch forever about this thing... We saw it at the cheap show, but my 3yr old, who loved Kong, was BORED. BUT, there is redemption... Like Hitchhikers (So much worse than this flotsam) They used people in suits over CG, since some big chunk of net-holes think CG stuff is bad, like they're living in 1999... Only the Purple one is expected to be that. Anyone who looks at Kong, or the actors in Episode 3, and say CGI looks fake... Watch Zathura, and remind yourself of bad rubber aliens. Not Greedo good... think.... Lemme get a picture... Since I NEVER saw a still of the LIZARD men from Zathura, and I LOVE lizard men aliens. I really Do, If the Lizard men had been cool, I'd be raving about the movie since a cool Lizard man, like Bossk washes over a movie like the blood of Christ. Galaxy Quest level was what I was hoping for... Not much to ask?

This!!! is what they gave us!!! And that photo is nicely lit and retouched... They look no where near that good in the movie, Bossk and Greed had much more movement... Hell The GORN was a better lizard man. Can't even get a Fucking Lizard dude right 20 some years after V was on TV. Even ENTERPRISE knew what was up... Zathura is a DVD you'll buy for people you just don't like, but don't hate enough for Monster in Law or Guide....

On a positive note, I also got to see Sky High. That's good stuff, but, BUT, make sure the Incredibles is washed out of your eyes, since it LOOKS a lot more real, and well, rent Sky High for like a buck, it... It's good, don't get me wrong, but it.... you'll take this in a bad way, but I gotta be honest, if I had taken the family to a $50 trip to the movies, I'd be pissed and hate it....
Sky High feels like a TV pilot. It almost looks like one. It doesn't look good enough to be on Sci-Fi, but Galactica sets a high bar there... If it weren't fun, it'd probably be lame.

So, here's ending the year on 3 forgettable movies... Yes, I called Kong forgettable... it's a tribute piece... a 200 million dollar homage... remakes either eclipse or fall out of memory. King Kong did it's best thing before we ever saw it, it got the original out on DVD, and you know Peter Jackson would probably agree.

Well, I'll try to post before years end... maybe I'll get to see Munich, Syriana and Good Night and Good Luck...
